These
are the types of business immigrants to Canada:
a) entrepreneurs, b) investors and c) self-employed persons
a)ENTREPRENEURS
The entrepreneur immigrant is usually one who seeks to move to Canada
and own and operate a business. The requirement is to have a
business background with previous business experience. Beginning
from the day the visa is issued you have two years to establish a
business employing at least one Canadian resident.
b)INVESTOR
Investors must have successfully operated, controlled or directed a business
and
must have a net worth, accumulated by their own
endeavours.
They must also have made a minimum investment in an approved
fund or business since the date of their application.
~ no conditions are automatically imposed upon admission;
~ investors may pursue whatever business opportunities in Canada
they wish, once their initial investment is made;
~ investors have little or no control over their investment and have no
access to these funds during the five-year lock-in period.
The venture must :
~ employ at least one Canadian citizen or permanent resident other
than the entrepreneur him/herself and his/her dependants.
~ Entrepreneurs must also be actively involved in managing the
business or venture. No minimum net worth is required but applicants
in this category must prove that they have enough money to establish
a business, cover its short-term operating costs and support their
dependants.
~ Conditions in this category must be met within two years of
admission.
~ There are no requirements for a fixed net worth, but must have
enough money to start the business and cover resettlement costs;
~ actively manage the business;
~ all family members are admitted to Canada on a conditional basis.
These conditions are removed once the entrepreneur sets up a
significant business venture, hires at least one employee, and is
actively involved in managing the business.
c)SELF EMPLOYED
Self-employed immigrants must establish or purchase a business in Canada that
will keep them employed and contribute significantly to Canada's economy or
cultural or artistic life (for example, professional athletes, artists,
actors,
farmers, writers).
~ no conditions are imposed upon admission;
~ self-employed persons are not required to provide jobs for others;
~ must present documentation proving ability to establish a business
that will contribute significantly to the economy or Canada's artistic or
cultural life.
